Hempstead resident Jermaine Grant, age 37, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars in Nassau County Court on Friday, Dec. 2, in connection with the July 2019 shooting outside of the D’Ambiance Nightclub in Baldwin.
Jurors deliberated for just four hours before convicting Grant of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in October 2022.
He was acquitted of a tampering with physical evidence charge.
Prosecutors said it was around 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2019, when Grant spotted an “enemy” outside the club’s front door and followed the man into an alley.
He then pulled out a gun and fired seven shots toward the victim, who was able to run away and escape without injury, prosecutors said.
Police arrested Grant later that day in Hempstead.
“This defendant stalked and cornered his victim, firing multiple shots as the man tried to flee. Jermaine Grant was shooting to kill,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.
“My office is committed to vigorously prosecuting gun violence in Nassau County, taking guns out of the hands of criminals, and ensuring that they are held responsible for their crimes with significant jail time.”
In addition to his prison term, Grant was ordered to serve five years of post-release supervision.
